Café Landtmann

Café Landtmann is an iconic Viennese coffee house, serving customers coffee, cake and meals and providing a neighbourhood meeting space since 1873. The central location of the cafe, surrounded by the town hall, parliament and university, along with theatres, galleries and museums, has long attracted a diverse crowd, with politicians sitting alongside artists, actors and philosophers. The characterful, heritage listed interior harks back to a Viennese golden age with intricate wood panelled walls, cosy booths, white linen tablecloths and tuxedoed waiters. Café Central

No trip to Vienna would be complete without a visit to Café Central, perhaps the most famous Viennese coffee house. Located inside the majestic Palais Ferstel along the ritzy Herrengasse in the Innere Stadt, Café Central opened in 1876. The cafe quickly became an important meeting place for the great writers, poets and intellectuals of the time, among them Freud, Trotsky and Altenberg. Inside, the café retains the elegant character of the Austrian empire with soaring vaulted ceilings, elegant marble columns and intricate wood panelled walls. Take a seat at one of the gorgeous booths under the grand windows and relax with a Kaffee mit Schlagobers (coffee with whipped cream), a piece of cake and a newspaper while experiencing a slice of Viennese history.


Café Comet/Fürth Kaffee

Kirchengasse 44, 1070 Wien,

In the trendy 7th district, just a few minutes’ walk from the Museum Quarter, you can find the excellent specialty coffee shop, Café Comet. The café interior is industrial chic with double height ceilings, brick shelves and minimalist furnishings including a long communal table and coffee paraphernalia stacked on the walls. There is even a wood burning stove! Staff are passionate about coffee here and serve up an excellent house blend, or follow the locals and order one of the rotating single origins on offer. The beans are from Viennese locals Fürth Kaffee and roasted on site.


Jonas Reindl

Währinger Str. 2-4, 1090 Wien

Just a stone’s throw from the magnificent twin-spired, gothic Votivkirche you can find the excellent Jonas Reindl café. Named after the famous tram and subway station nearby, Jonas Reindl is a serious coffee café with house roasted beans and friendly, knowledgeable and passionate staff. Inside the décor is contemporary, with polished concrete floors, timber tables, light bulbs dangling from the ceiling and modern art on stark white walls. Order a flat white and slice of carrot cake and take a seat outside in the sun. What a perfect way to experience Vienna.


Fenster Café

Hidden away down a quiet cobblestoned lane in the heart of the city, keep your eyes peeled for the tiny, hole-in-the-wall Fenster Café. While they serve a range of excellent coffee styles using their delicious house roasted beans, there is only one choice you should make … the cornettoccino! This is an espresso shot with foamed milk served in a chocolate topped waffle cone.
