Prater Garten

Kastanienallee 7-9, 10435 Berlin

Prater Garten is Berlin’s oldest bier garden, occupying almost an acre of space in the middle of the city. It’s filled with communal tables and benches and serves excellent beer and great German food. Grab a nice shady spot under a tree and order a Prater Pils (the house brewed beer) and some sausages and potato salad or schnitzel and enjoy the lovely atmosphere of Prater Garten. In the cooler months the beer garden is closed but the on-site restaurant operates all year round. Hearty German food washed down with freshly brewed beer – what could be better!

Hidden away in a quiet, leafy Charlottenburg street you’ll find the family run Restaurant Buschbeck’s. An authentically local restaurant, there is no tourist (or English) menu here, but the lovely waitress Ariane will happily explain the menu to you. Bruscbeck’s serves up seasonal, fresh and hearty meals such as calf cream goulash, suckling pig cheeks and Icelandic salmon. The wine list is small but offers some great local choices. Simple, casual furnishings, excellent food and great customer service make this a lovely restaurant to seek out while you’re in Berlin.

Linienstraße 160, 10115 Berlin

On a quiet street corner in the trendy Mitte area, Lokal is a modern German restaurant focused on creating bold flavours with local, sustainable ingredients. Inside the restaurant is minimalist with bare white walls, polished concrete floors, timber tables and antique style chairs with soft light emanating from pendant lights dangling from the ceiling and candles on each table. The menu changes weekly according to what’s in season and what inspires the chef and might include pigeon, rabbit’s back or roast lamb. On a warm night try to snag an outside table!
