Bars

Berlin is world famous for its nightlife. With a new bar opening every week on average, the city offers up something for everyone; from all-night underground clubbing to high end cocktail bars, to the perfectly poured German beer. Below we have listed a few of our favourites in Berlin, covering a range of bar styles and prices.

Dicke Wirtin

Carmerstraße 9, 10623 Berlin

On a quiet, tree-lined street in Charlottenburg lies this traditional Berliner pub. Timber panelling, wooden benches, booths and tables, a long timber bar – it’s just how you picture a German pub should look. There are nine beers on tap, expertly poured, and plenty of other options to choose from. It’s not fancy but it’s the kind of boozer found all over the country – perfect for a relaxing drink before you head out for more exploring.

Rutz Weinbar

Chausseestraße 8, 10115 Berlin

In the heart of the trendy Mitte neighbourhood on a busy, innocuous street, you will find Berlin’s first three Michelin Star restaurant, Rutz. On the ground floor, below the restaurant you will find the outstanding Rutz Weinbar. With over 1000 wines to choose from and a bar menu designed by the same chef as the restaurant above, you’re in for a treat! Upon entry you will be dazzled by a long glass wall, entirely covered with wine bottles from floor to ceiling. Take a seat at one of the cosy timber tables and let the knowledgeable staff guide you through a tasting journey, most likely featuring Riesling – of which they have more than 500 different bottles to explore. Pair your wine with some delicious, seasonal German bites and enjoy.

Café am Neuen See

Lichtensteinallee 2, 10787 Berlin

In the middle of the Tiergarten; the sun filtering in through the trees, the lake gently caressing the shore just metres away, and a stein of beer in your hand – what could be better?! Café am Neuen See is a beautiful bier garden, with rows of benches set up to take in the stunning surrounds of the picturesque setting. It’s a perfect way to spend a warm afternoon, though also accessible in cooler months with wood stoves outside and fireplaces inside.

Monkey Bar

Budapester Str. 40, 10787 Berlin

On the 10th floor of the oh-so-hip 25hours Hotel Bikini Berlin, lies the trendy Monkey Bar. The bar is aptly named as not only do you get stunning panoramic views of Berlin from up there, you can also look straight down into the monkey enclosure of the Berlin Zoo, which is right next door. The décor is modern and green with plants cascading from the high ceilings and zoo inspired artworks scattered around. Bartenders serve up a great selection of imaginative cocktails and bar snacks – try the Mad Monkey Mai Tai with 3 Plantation Rums, Dry Curacao, Lime, Orgeat and Demerara! It’s a popular spot so to avoid the crowds and make the most of the stunning views, pop up during the day for a refreshing beverage and recharge before heading back out into the thick of it below!

Bar am Steinplatz

Steinplatz 4, 10623 Berlin

Bar am Steinplatz, at the excellent Art Nouveau Hotel am Steinplatz, is no standard hotel bar. Despite its innocuous surrounds on a quiet leafy street in Charlottenburg, the bar has recently picked up awards including Hotel Bar of the Year, Bar Menu of the Year and Most Innovative Bartender of the Year. One of the reasons for this success lies in the bars unique ‘Clear Drinks Menu’ where all nine cocktails are served colourless and in the same glass. The menu lists the ingredients and flavour profiles, but each drink proves a wonderful surprise for the senses. The bar is also known for its extensive craft beer menu, featuring 15 beer styles, mostly from German breweries. You can soak up the alcohol with delicious snacks from the bar menu including crispy eggplant and ox brisket kebab. Bar am Steinplatz is proudly a gin free bar, instead try the German Doppelwachholder (double juniper schnapps) for a unique local experience.
