In a quiet, residential part of town away from the hordes of tourists, though still less than 10 minutes walk from the train station, you’ll find Hinicht. A popular café with locals, they serve excellent coffee and have a small selection of food to order made from fresh, locally sourced produce. It is a small space, with quirky hexagonal tiles, a long timber bar and trendy lights dangling from the ceiling. Staff are friendly and welcoming and make it a lovely environment to enjoy a coffee before heading back out to explore.
Dr. Oetker Café Gugelhuph

Just 5 minutes walk from the train station, on a bustling street corner, you’ll find the unique Dr. Oetker Café Gugelhupf. Inside is trendy and characterful with timber flooring, exposed brick, white and black tiles and a scattering of tables. There are even some bench seats hanging from the ceiling! The coffee is some of the best in the city and there’s a large variety of freshly made rolls, pastries and cakes as well as well as more substantial soups, salads and baked potato dishes. The staff here are friendly and helpful and seem to enjoy what they do. The café gets particularly busy on weekends for brunch, so it’s best to reserve a table.
Mardi Gras

Just up the street from the River Reuss in the Old Town, Mardi Gras is a delightful café with a lovely atmosphere. Inside you’ll find quirky Moroccan tiles, leather banquettes, works of art decorating the walls and beautiful fresh flowers. The staff here are friendly and they make a good cup of coffee and serve a range of tasty breakfast and lunch options. On a nice day, sit outside on the Parisian style terrace with your coffee and peruse one of the international newspapers.
PURA

In the heart of the Old Town you’ll find the charming plant-based café PURA. Run by two passionate and friendly sisters, PURA serves up fresh and locally sourced food and excellent coffee, roasted locally in Lucerne by Café Tacuba. The vibe inside is bright and eclectic with marble flooring and tabletops, wooden beams and pots and plants scattered around on shelves. Light streams in from the arched window and there are tables outside for the warmer months.
