Bar Cañete

Located in the hip El Raval neighbourhood, Bar Cañete is one of the most famous and popular tapas restaurants in Barcelona. Don’t let that put you off. They are famous for a reason. Bar Cañete serves traditional Catalan tapas made from fresh and locally sourced produce. Steak with foie gras and the amazing suckling pig are highlights. Staff are welcoming and entertaining and there is a mix of locals and tourists. Grab a seat at the long marble bar and you get a front row seat to all the action of the open kitchen.


Ca L’Estevet

Carrer de Valldonzella, 46, 08001 Barcelona

Ca L’Estevet has been serving traditional Catalan cuisine in El Raval since 1890 and as soon as you enter you feel that history. Beautiful Catalan tiles and timber panelling decorate the walls, along with grand paintings and photographs of past luminaries.  The food served is traditional and tasty, staff are patient and helpful if you’re not familiar with Catalan cuisine, and it is all reasonably priced. The lunch special is incredible value, including three courses and wine for just €24.50. The restaurant is very popular with locals for lunch and dinner so make sure you book a table to avoid missing out.


Igueldo

Carrer del Rossello, 186, 08008 Barcelona

Igueldo is a modern Basque restaurant in the Eixample neighbourhood serving delicious food in elegant surroundings. Known for their amazing grilled options of meat and fish, it’s the kind of menu where you wish you could try one of everything. Excellent service and a great wine menu ensure you will have a memorable dining experience, and you might need to pop back to try those other dishes.


Disfrutar

Carrer de Villarroel, 163, 08036 Barcelona

For a truly spectacular dining experience Disfrutar has you covered. Run by three former El Bulli chefs, Disfrutar is a modern, 2 Michelin Star restaurant located in the Eixample neighbourhood. Taking design cues from the Mediterranean, the design is modern and stylish but also laid back, with ceramic tiles throughout and plenty of natural light. The action in the kitchen is visible as you walk through to the dining room and this helps build anticipation as you head to your table. Tasting menus are the way it is done here and each of the many courses is a glorious work of art, some prepared at the table. Wine pairings have been carefully designed to enhance each dish, and if you are spending that much on the food, you may as well go all in, right?


Agut

Carrer d’en Gignàs, 16, 08002 Barcelona

Hidden away in a charming alley in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, Agut serves traditional Catalan cuisine in delightfully authentic surroundings. Great works of art on the walls, white linen tablecloths and a spacious layout make this the kind of restaurant where you settle in for the long haul. Seafood dishes are the highlight here and they have an excellent wine list too.
